GOP congressman decries socialism on House floor, but by his own definition, he’s a socialist.
“Let’s talk about socialism for a moment. It’s greater and greater government micromanaging of our lives. It’s higher taxes to pay for it,” Brooks said. “Let’s talk about free enterprise. Free enterprise is belief in the individual, in freedom, in opportunity. It’s what has helped make America one of the greatest nations the world has ever seen.”
— part of a House floor speech this week by US Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), in which he denounced Democrats as “the socialist members of this body.”
But Brooks is all for government micromanaging of our lives. He wants to ban abortion, stem-cell research, and gay marriage. He thinks Muslim Americans pose a national security threat. He also thinks it’s important to spend tax money on NASA, which has a huge presence in his district, and takes credit for a $1.8 billion appropriation for the space program in the last budget…which is far greater than the funding that he chose to cut from women’s clinics and public broadcasting last year.
Best of all is his stance on illegal immigrants: “I will do anything short of shooting them.”
Well, at least he’s a big believer in “the individual, in freedom, in opportunity.” Not like those micromanaging reds!
[I just want to believe he’s secretly a performance artist and no one would really elect people like this to congress…]
This reminds me of the big Kim Il Sung statute in Samjiyon of him posing with binoculars.
